In 2013, Meros do Brasil Institute was established in order to provide autonomy and improve the management of activities, resources and partnerships (institutions, researchers, sponsors, community and other parties involved in the development of the technical/scientific studies that had already been conducted as well as new initiatives).
IMB is an institution founded by its own precursors and members of Meros do Brasil Project, who, since 2002, have been working in the studies and in the conservation of the goliath groupers and of the marine and coastal environments in Brazil. Despite being relatively new, the Institute brings to the table the expertise of its researchers, acquired during an 18-year period working on the Brazilian coast.
Since the creation of the IMB, the brand “Meros do Brasil” has no longer been just a name, but it has gained a legal status, strengthening and legitimizing its conservation and research actions.
The group of professional researchers that make up the founders body and partners of the IMB, aside from the technical/scientific expertise, have ample experience in management, project management and implementation with a focus on social environment, gained from several support sources, funding and sponsorships. We can highlight National initiatives like Programa Petrobras Ambiental/Socioambiental; Fundo Brasileiro para a Biodiversidade (FUNBIO); Transpetro, Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa (CNPq); Fundação Grupo Boticário de Proteção à Natureza; and International as Linha D’Água, PADI Aware, PADI Foundation) among others.
The Institute relies on an important partnership network that includes Governmental Organizations, Public Organizations, Development Agencies, Universities, Research Institutes, Social and Cultural Movements that act in the development and goals achievement. Likewise, the IMB relationship with the society is considered primordial and it is taken into consideration when the actions are planned.
