Researchers from the Instituto Meros do Brasil play an active and important role in the promotion, discussion, formulation and implementation of Public Policies geared towards conservation and sustainable use in the country such as:

  1. Epinephelus itajara Atlantic goliath grouper Fishing Moratorium, imposed since 2002 (Portaria IBAMA N° 121/2002);
  2. Epinephelus marginatus, Dusky grouper’s size at first maturity (L50) (Portaria IBAMA N° 73/2003);
  3. Engagement in creating and implementing management plans for Marine Protected Areas;
  4. Workshop for the renovation of the Moratorium n.121 for protection of goliath groupers (2007);
  5. Publication of the draft PAN (National Action Plan) for the protection of goliath groupers (2010);
  6. Collaboration in the evaluation of the conservation status of goliath groupers (2012, 2016);
  7. Writing of the daft of the Technical Note for MMA/ICMBIO and for the MPA/ subsidy for the renewal of the goliath grouper moratorium – Inter-ministerial Normative Ruling no. 13 (2012) and renewal of the Atlantic goliath grouper moratorium INI no. 13 for goliath groupers and the Atlantic wreckfish (2015);
  8. Participation in groups of evaluation of other endangered species and specialists workshops which gave rise and supported Ordinance no. 445 of MMA;
  9. Discussion of the Abrolhos MPA fishing agreements;
  10. Preparation of the National Action Plan (PAN) for corals, mangroves and Recovery Plan of the parrotfish.
